Google pays tribute to mathematician George Boole on his 200th birthday

Google comes up with an animated mathematical doodle to mark late mathematician George Boole`s 200th birth anniversary.

​New Delhi: Google is known for its trademark doodles and this time the search engine giant has decorated its home page by marking the 200th birth anniversary of late mathematician George Boole. Google has payed a tribute to the “Father of the Information Age”, through their doodle, that too an animated, mathematical one!

George Boole was a mathematician, logician and philosopher whose legacy of Boolean logic is credited with laying the foundations for the information age.

He was born on 2nd November, 1815 in Lincolnshire and although he had little formal schooling he became a teacher and by the age of 19 he had established his own school in Loncoln.

Boole's algebraic approach to logic, in which all values are reduced to either "true" or "false", is still used today.

He is known as the “father of the information age” because of his contributions to modern computer science through his invention of Boolean algebra.

George Boole died of pneumonia in 1864, when he was 49 years old, after he walked two miles through cold rain and then lectured wearing his wet clothes.

Google's animated doodle is a demonstration of the 'logic gates' used in computing that are derived from Boolean functions.
