New York: Popular micro-blogging site Twitter has stopped or reduced showing ads to its users.
This has been done so that its 'VIP' users stay engaged with the service.
In the past few months, the micro-blogging company has made the site ad-free, or nearly ad-free experience for some of its most prominent and active users, Re/Code reported on Tuesday.
The idea of reducing the ads pop-ups has been in the works since September.
Twitter selects the no-ad or low-ad group by a variety of criteria, including the volume and reach of the tweets they generate.
Twitter representative Will Stickney said: "We are constantly looking at constraints and adjustments to optimise which ads are shown and how often."
