New Delhi: Keeping up with its tradition, Google today pays tribute to yet another legendary personality. Today being the 67th birthday of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Google has painted its logo with the iconic singer's image.
Visit Google's homepage and you will be welcomed with a doodle featuring the singer with a group of musicians engrossed in doing what he is known best for.
Born on October 13, 1948 in Lyallpur, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was a Pakistani musician, primarily a singer of Qawwali, the devotional music of the Sufis.
In his short life, Nusrat was the world's greatest singer of qawwali, a boisterous and passionate music of mystical Islam.
Khan popularized the region's traditional mystic Qawwali form of music and semi-classical Pakistani music in the West by mixing it with popular modern fast beats. He toured extensively, performing in over 40 countries and earned the tag of the 'brightest shining star of qawwali'.
He died of cardiac arrest in August 16, 1997 in London at the age of 49 at the peak of his fame.
