New Delhi: After joining Twitter in May, 2015, President of the United States of America, Barack Obama has now joined social networking giant Facebook!

Obama, who's nearing the end of his second term in office, launched his own personal Facebook page on Monday, in a fresh attempt to spread his message through non-traditional channels.

The Facebook fraternity welcomed the president with open arms and within the first three hours of his page launch, Obama gained more than 200,000 likes. Among the early commenters were Facebook's chief operating officer Sheryl Sandburg. She wrote, “Welcome to Facebook, President Obama! Excited for you to have your very own Page—and looking forward to the conversation (and the just-for-fun stuff).”

The page is currently being operated by Organizing for Action.

According to CNN, on joining Facebook, Obama said he wanted his account to be "a place where we can have real conversations," diving right in with his first post on climate change.

In that post, Obama took Facebook users on a walk through his back yard at the White House and calling on Americans in a video "to preserve this beautiful planet of ours."

In the video, Obama says, “I want to make sure the beauty of this particular national park, but also national parks across the country and our planet are going to be there for Malia, Sasha, their kids, their grandkids for generations to come.”
