President's Rule in Arunachal Pradesh: SC to hear Congress' plea on Jan 27

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear Congress' plea against Centre's recommendation of President's Rule in Arunachal Pradesh on January 27.

The move came hours after the Congress party moved Supreme Court against the Union Cabinet's decision and appealed it to quash the move.

"We have filed the petition before the apex court registry," said Congress leader and senior advocate Vivek Tankha.

He said the petition has been filed by the state Congress Chief whip Bamang Felix and an urgent hearing has been sought.

"We will fight in the court and let the people decide. Matter is sub-judice and the Government of India should have waited for Court's order," said Arunachal Pradesh CM Nabam Tuki.

Earlier in the day, senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal said a party delegation will meet President Pranab Mukherjee.

"This has never happened in the history. Centre is derailing the democracy in Arunachal Pradesh. A Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and other leaders will meet President Pranab Mukherjee to discuss about this issue," said Sibal.

Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Kapil Sibal and Chief Minister Nabam Tuki and others will meet the President in the evening soon after Congress President Sonia Gandhi holds a meeting with Tuki and other leaders over the issue.

There are reports that Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is also likely to meet the President in connection with the Union Cabinet's recommendation yesterday.

The decision by the Centre came at a time when Supreme Court is hearing petitions on the political crisis.
