Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to receive heavy rains coupled with gusty surface wind in the next 24 hours as a depression in the region has intensified into a deep depression over Bangladesh today.

The depression over coastal areas of West Bengal and neighbourhood moved northeastwards and intensified into a deep depression over south Bangladesh with its centre about 300 km northeast of Balasore, the IMD said in a bulletin.

The system is likely to move slowly north-northeastwards during the next 24 hours and subsequently likely to weaken gradually and move northwestwards.

Under its impact, rain or thundershower is likely to occur at most places over north Odisha and many places over south Odisha during the next 24 hours.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over Odisha with extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places over north Odisha districts in the next 24 hours, it said.

Most parts of Odisha have been experiencing heavy rains for the last three days.

Local cautionary signal Number Three (LC-III) was kept hoisted in all ports of Odisha.

Gusty surface wind from westerly direction with speed reaching 50 to 60 kmph and gusting up to 70 kmph may prevail along and off the Odisha coast.

Sea condition would be very rough to high in Odisha coast. Seawave height may increase upto 3 to 4 meters along Odisha coast, the MeT office said, advising fishermen not to venture into the sea in Odisha Coast.
