New Delhi: Sky gazers and space enthusiasts were treated to a spectacular and rare total solar eclipse yesterday morning.

Many websites, including NASA, aired the event live for those who were likely to miss it.

As the new moon passed directly in front of the Sun during the early hours of Wednesday, March 9, millions of people across Indonesia and the Pacific plunged into darkness due to the celestial spectacle.

NASA's Aqua satellite happened to capture a stunning image of the total solar eclipse moving across the south Pacific Ocean at 03:05 UTC, through its MODIS instrument.

Needless to say, the photograph is beautiful!
