Chennai: The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) completed 44 years on Monday (October 17) and stepped into 45th year. However, perhaps it will be for the first time when its general secretary and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa would not hoist the party flag and garland its founder MG Ramachandran's (MGR) statue since she took over the reins of the party 27 years ago.
The 68-year-old Jayalalithaa has been admitted to a hospital since September 22 for fever and dehydration.
The AIADMK said Jayalalithaa had approved the celebration of the founding day.
Party Presidium Chairman E Madhusudanan will garland MGR's statue and also hoist the party flag at AIADMK's headquarters today.
Meanwhile, suspense continued about the health condition of Jayalalithaa, who was admitted to Apollo Hospitals last month.
There was no medical bulletin about her health from the hospital for sixth consecutive day Sunday.
Apollo Hospitals, in its last bulletin issued on October 10, said Jayalalithaa is under constantly monitored by intensivists and other consultants.
Meanwhile, Tamil movie actor Rajinikanth on Sunday visited Apollo Hospitals to enquire about Jayalalithaa's health.
In the October 10 bulletin, the hospital said: "Necessary respiratory support, antibiotics, nutrition, supportive therapy and passive physiotherapy are being given."
