Mild to moderate rain coupled with squally winds were being witnessed in parts of Tamil Nadu.

Chennai: Cyclonic storm Nada on Friday weakened into a depression, with making its landfall between Nagapattinam and Vedaranyam in Tamil Nadu.

Rainfall is expected at various places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Kerala.

The depression crossed near Nagapattinam in north Tamil Nadu between 4-5 am. 

"A large chunk of the depression has crossed coast early morning. However, over 25 percent of the system is yet to make the landfall which will happen soon," a MeT official said.

According to the weather bulletin, light to moderate rainfall at many places with isolated heavy rainfall was expected over interior Tamil Nadu, and Kerala till Saturday .

Light to moderate rainfall at many places is also likely over coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry till Friday night.

Squally winds speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph would prevail along and off Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts during next 12 hours.

The sea condition would be rough along and off Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coast and fishermen were advised not to venture into sea till Friday night.

Cyclone Nada, which weakened into a deep depression yesterday, moved Westnorth-Westwards and became a depression about 40 km East south East of Karaikkal (Puducherry Union Territory), the official said.

Meanwhile, top government authorities said the situation is being monitored continuously.
