Chennai: The funeral of J Jayalalithaa will take place at Chennai's Marina Beach at 4:30 pm, the Tamil Nadu government announced.

Preparations are underway for the last rites of the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister as thousands of police personnel have been deployed across the city to check law and order situation following her demise. 


Jayalalithaa will be cremated next to the memorial site of her mentor and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MG Ramachandran, who was also her co-star in several Tamil films.


Her body, in a casket draped in the national flag is kept at the Rajaji Hall to enable public to pay their homage and will be later taken to the Marina Beach for the cremation process. She will be accorded state funeral by the Centre.


As per the latest inputs, people have already started thronging the Marina Beach.


The ceremony will take place at 4.30 pm this evening and will see in attendance several politicians from across parties.
