Chennai: Aimed at making registration of documents hassle-free and check malpractices, the Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday said a new software would soon be launched, enabling the people to prepare the documents themselves and send them to the Sub-Registrar's office concerned online.
Announcing this in the Assembly, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa said the entire procedure related to registration of documents in the Registration Department would be fully computerised and a software developed for the purpose was being test-run in 20 offices under the department.
"Soon, the software will be put in place at all the registration offices across Tamil Nadu," she said in a suo motu statement, adding that registration of documents could only be done through this method after its implementation.
The people could use the template -- a feature of the software -- prepare the documents themselves and send them to the Sub-Registrar's office concerned online.
Measures like authentication of documents by using fingerprints of parties, obtaining their Aadhar and mobile phone numbers and sending an SMS to them will prevent impersonation and registration of fake documents, she said.
"Certified copies of registered documents will be provided online on payment of a fee," she said, adding that the application for getting the papers and remittance of fee could also be done online.
Also, through the new software, information related to property rights, maintained by the Revenue Department, could be checked online.
"Patta transfer could be done expeditiously as the Revenue Department would be able to access information related to registration of documents through internet," she said.
The Chief Minister also announced setting up of helpdesks at 228 commercial tax offices to aid traders upload their tax-related forms for free.
