New Delhi: A senior UP BJP leader has made a controversial statement against Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan for trying to portray the Bulandshahr gang-rape as a political conspiracy.
IP Singh, a senior spokesperson of UP BJP, said in a tweet that Azam Khan would know the pain of the gang-raped 14-year-old girl and her mother when his own daughter and wife get gang-raped.
IP Singh tweeted:
मियां आजम खान के बेटी और बीबी से
— IP Singh (@ipsingh1432) August 3, 2016
gang rap हो जाय तब आजम की आँख
खुलेगी बुलंदशहर हाई वे पर 12 साल की बेटी और माँ के साथ गैंगरेप पर ओछी बात कही
Despite facing flak from all quarters, Singh stood by his comments and has refused to withdraw the tweet.
The BJP leader said that the Bulandshahr incident has left his own family jittery about the safety of women in Uttar Pradesh.
“I and my wife cried worrying about our daughter's safety,” Singh said.
Khan had suggested that the Bulandshahr highway gang-rape could be an outcome of a political conspiracy against the ruling party, drawing condemnation from rival parties.
Khan termed the gangrape of a 13-year-old girl and her mother by a group of bandits near Bulandshahr last week as an attempt to "malign" the Samajwadi Party government by those who want to "come to power" in poll-bound UP. Assembly elections in UP are due next year.
