Dadri lynching: What happened on the night of September 28

New Delhi: Saista, 21, the daughter of Mohammed Akhlaq - who was killed in the Dadri lynching incident over beef rumours - has recounted the events of the fateful night of September 28.

Saista said that the mob who attacked their house poured kerosene on their home and threatened to kill her if she complained to the police, a report in The Indian Express said.

“Before leaving the house, they (the mob) threw kerosene. Kerosene was in (our) house. They were saying that if you tell the police, we will kill you too,” Saista said in her statement before the magistrate, which was appended to the chargesheet filed by the police on Wednesday, the daily reported.

Saista said that their house in Bisara village was attacked by about 15-20 men at around 10:15 pm.

After entering the house, they attacked my father and brother. While one was carrying an iron rod, the others had sticks in their hands, Akhlaq's daughter said.

The chargesheet in the case filed by police this week mentions involvement of 15 people, including a juvenile.

The chargesheet says that the police had recovered five sticks, an iron rod with blood stains, blood-stained clothes, shoes and unidentified meat from the house on the night of the incident.

Talking about the allegations levelled by the mob, Saista said. “We did not kill a cow. The mob which entered our house took out meat from our refrigerator. That was goat’s meat which our relatives had sent. Those people took that meat with them.”

Shortly before the attack, she recounted, an announcement was made at the nearby temple that someone had “slaughtered a cow”.

And when the mob broke in, they said, “You have slaughtered a cow, we will not leave you alive.”
