Illegal firecrackers seized

Varanasi: Illegally stored firecrackers worth Rs 50 lakhs were seized from a godwon in the Chetganj locality here, police said.

The godown owner Javed Khan has also been detained for questioning, Circle Officer (Chetganj) Anurag Arya said.

Police also raided various places in the city and seized illegal crackers from shops and godowns, he said.

On Tuesday, five people had lost their lives and four others were injured after an explosion took place in an illegal firecracker factory in Pitarkunda locality in the city.
