New Delhi: Locals of Bishada village in Uttar Pradesh's Dadri on Friday welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks that Hindus and Muslims should work together to fight poverty than with each other, saying his comments will have "deep impact" in improving situation in the hamlet where a man was lynched to death following rumour of beef eating.
"The Prime Minister's remarks are very very important from our point of view. I want to thank him for the comments as it will have deep impact in improving situation here.
"What he has said is absolutely correct and people will be impelled to think over his remarks and act accordingly," village Pradhan (head) of Bishada, Sanjeev Rana told PTI.
He said the situation in Bishada at present is peaceful and "there is no problem" as a team comprising Hindus and Muslims is holding peace meetings in each part of the village to ensure harmony.
He added the teams are targeting Muslim families especially to see they feel assured of their safety.
"We are taking into confidence Muslim families especially, telling them not be afraid (after what happened 10 days ago). Be it youngsters, elders and women, we are assuring them that such incident won't recur," he added.
Modi, in his first comments amid communal overtones in the wake of the lynching incident, had yesterday pitched for communal harmony and brotherhood in the country.
During his election rally in Bihar's Nawada, he had urged Hindus and Muslims should work together to fight the common enemy of poverty and ignore "irresponsible" statements made by politicians, even if he himself makes any.
Modi had also invoked President Pranab Mukherjee saying the countrymen should follow his message on preserving the core civilisational values of diversity, tolerance and plurality.
"It is the unity, communal harmony, brotherhood and peace that will take the nation forward," he had said.
50-year-old Mohammed Iqlakh was lynched to death, while his son Danish left severely injured by a mob on September 28 following allegations that the family had consumed beef.
