People are still awaiting 'Acche Din': Akhilesh Yadav

Taking a dig at the BJP led NDA government at the Centre, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday said the people are still awaiting for 'Acche Din' as promised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Lok Sabha elections held two years ago.

Allahabad: Taking a dig at the BJP led NDA government at the Centre, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday said the people are still awaiting for 'Acche Din' as promised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Lok Sabha elections held two years ago.

"The people of UP must be cautious. BJP and the BSP are likely to come to you soon with tall claims and false allegations against Samajwadi Party government as they are wary of its popularity which has grown over the years.

"I want you all to have a clear idea of the unprecedented progress witnessed by the state under the current regime so that you are not deceived by the opposition parties," Yadav said.

The Chief Minister was addressing a public meeting at Dandupur village in the district's trans-Yamuna region, about 40 km from the city, where he also launched a number of schemes involving a total expenditure of Rs 200 crore.

"I would ask you to be particularly cautious against the propaganda of the BJP. They bowled you over with the slogan of achche din in 2014 and your overwhelming support helped them win the maximum number of seats from our state."

"Now it is the time to ask where are the good days. You just need to look around and see for yourself whether your local BJP MPs have been able to bring even a glimmer of the good days within the confines of their respective constituencies", Yadav said.

Without naming Mayawati, Yadav said "The BSP's leader, while she was in power, had done little except squandering money on parks, statues and memorials. Now, realising that the people of the state, especially the young, have tasted the fruits of development, she has very cleverly changed colours and started talking of progress and promising that if voted to power again she will not go back to her old ways".

"Contrast this with the SP rule in the state, which has been marked by rapid construction of roads and highways, unprecedented improvement in power situation, a surge in investments in sectors like I-T and food processing and welfare schemes which have ensured laptops to young students, pension to the old, jobs to the unemployed and shelter to the homeless", the Chief Minister claimed.
