Lucknow: Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav was booked for allegedly threatening I-G rank officer Amitabh Thakur over phone few days back, media reports said on Thursday.
According to a report published by 'The Indian Express', special counsel of the UP government had informed the Allahabad High Court on Wednesday that an FIR against Mulayam Singh would be lodged “forthwith” for allegedly threatening the IPS officer.
The counsel said this while replying to the Lucknow Bench of the HC on progress in connection with a chief judicial magistrate court’s order to file an FIR against the senior politician.
The bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice SN Shukla later disposed a writ petition filed by suspended IPS Amitabh Thakur and his wife Nutan, who had called for constituting a judicial inquiry into their alleged harassment by their senior officers and the veteran politician.
Senior advocate J N Mathur, who appeared for the government, informed the court that 'if the FIR has not been lodged yet, it will be lodged forthwith.
Suspended police officer Amitabh Thakur had moved court for registering an FIR against Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav for allegedly threatening him with dire consequences on phone on July 10.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Som Prabha Mishra got the complaint registered and called for a report from Hazratganj police station. In the complaint, Thakur alleged that the SP chief had telephoned him on July 10 and criminally intimidated him.
Thakur, who is locked in a tussle with the state government, was served a 200-page chargesheet and a vigilance inquiry initiated against him. The IG-rank officer had triggered a political storm by releasing the text and audio of the conversation purportedly carrying Mulayam Singh Yadav's voice.
