TMC orders internal probe into Narada sting operation
The inquiry would also look into whether leaders of other political parties had helped in conducting this sting operation, party general secretary Partha Chatterjee said.
Kolkata: Nearly a month after the Narada sting operation video purportedly showing some of its leaders accepting money came to light, Trinamool Congress on Saturday said the party would conduct an internal probe into the matter and that action would be taken if anyone is found guilty.
"The party will conduct an internal inquiry into the sting operation. If anyone is found guilty, action will be taken against him," TMC secretary general Partha Chatterjee told reporters here.
The inquiry would also look into whether leaders of other political parties had helped in conducting this sting operation, he said, alleging that Congress, CPI(M) and BJP leaders were involved in it to malign the TMC.
TMC had earlier dismissed the tapes as "doctored" and said the "dirty tricks departments" of its political opponents were behind the "smear campaign".
"We have also many stings against opposition parties. But we don't believe in playing such dirty games," Chatterjee said.
He also accused a senior CPI(M) leader of being involved with IVRCL, which had constructed the flyover that collapsed here recently.
Commenting on the TMC internal probe, state Congress president Adhir Chowdhury said, "It is due to the pressure of the people that they (TMC) have decided to institute a probe into the matter. But why are they scared of a CBI probe into it."
BJP MLA Shamik Bhattacharya said the decision to constitute internal inquiry into the matter is "nothing but an eyewash".
CPI(M) Politburo member Mohammed Salim said in a tweet that Banerjee's "drama" and subsequent attacks were conducted to distract public from Sarada Scam.
"This time it is Narada. People won't be fooled this time."
