Kolkata: In a boost for CPI(M)-Congress alliance in West Bengal, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi and former Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya are likely to share stage at an election rally here on Wednesday.

"Buddhadeb Bhattacharya will share stage with Rahul Gandhi at an election rally in Park Circus maidan on April 27," CPI(M) politburo member Mohammed Salim told PTI.


Earlier, CPI(M) leaders like Ritabrata Banerjee, Dipak Dasgupta and Banghsa Gopal Chowdhury have shared stage with Gandhi during his election rallies in Bengal.


Gandhi will be in Bengal for campaigning on April 27 and is slated to attend three election meetings in East Midnapore district, South 24 Parganas district and the last one at Park Circus in the city.


According to CPI(M) and Congress leaders, Bhattacharya, one of the main architects to Congress-CPI(M) alliance in Bengal, sharing stage with Rahul Gandhi will boost the workers of the alliance ahead of the last two phases on April 30 and May 5.


West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's Bhawanipore constituency will go to polls on April 30.
