Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chairperson Mamata Banerjee on Friday filed her nomination papers for the state Assembly Elections and declared assets worth a little over Rs 30 lakh.
Banerjee, who will contest the Assembly polls from Bhowanipore in south Kolkata, undertook a road show on her way to the office of the district election officer, as large number of supporters carrying party flags, chanted slogans.
Accompanied by party general secretary Subrata Bakshi, Banerjee filed her nomination papers.
As per her affidavit, Banerjee's annual income for 2014-15 was Rs 5,92,655 and she doesn't own any immovable properties or have any vehicle registered in her name.
Her movable assets comprise cash in hand of Rs 18,436, Rs 27.61 lakh in bank investments, nine grams of jewellery worth Rs 26,380, and a multi-gym machine worth Rs 2.15 lakh, besides Rs 5,188 as personal advances.
Incidentally, Banerjee's assets have nearly doubled in the last five years. In the 2011 assembly polls, her assets, comprising entirely of moveables - were valued at Rs 15.84 lakh.
Banerjee is pitted against Left Front-supported Congress nominee and former union minister Deepa Dasmunsi and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's grandnephew Chandra Kumar Bose of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Both Dasmunsi and Bose also filed their nominations papers on the day.
Bhowanipore goes to the hustings on April 30 in the 5th phase. It also has in the fray Lok Janshakti Party's Bobby Halder -- one of the two transgenders from the state contesting the polls.
