Republican frontrunner Donald Trump was projected to have won in Georgia, as voting ended in the first three of a dozen states holding Democratic and Republican presidential nomination votes on Tuesday.

"Thank you Georgia!" the billionaire Trump tweeted as the southern state was called in his favor, ahead of rivals Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, John Kasich and Ben Carson.
Early exit polls suggested Trump and Kasich were leading the Republican race in Vermont, CNN said.

Voters cast ballots in a series of primaries and caucuses stretching from Massachusetts and Virginia on the east coast to Texas and all the way to Alaska.

If Clinton and Trump -- both strong favorites -- win big on this pivotal day in the race, they will be well on their way to their party nominations, spelling doom for their challengers.
As the first states were called in her favor, the Clinton campaign immediately tweeted out a call for donations, as the former secretary of state seeks to wipe Sanders out of the race.
