Kenya cargo plane `hit an electric pole` before crashing into building

Kenya Red Cross said that the plane crashed into a building in Utawala near the GSU training School today morning. Two ambulances were dispatched to the site.

Nairobi: A cargo plane is said to have crashed into a building in Utawala in Kenya shortly after taking off from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport early Wednesday, killing all four crew member onboard including the pilot, reports said Wednesday.

Kenya Airport Authority said that the plane that crashed was "a Fokker 50 cargo plane" that rammed into a two-storey commercial building in Utawala after taking off from JKIA.
One of the bodies has been recovered from the crash site and rescue work is going on.

The plane was reportedly carrying a mild stimulant known as Khat to the Somali capital, Mogadishu. Joseph Ngisa, the airport`s head of police investigations, suggested that the plane was flying low and might have struck an electric pole before crashing into a commercial building in the Embakasi area, according to a news agency.
