Police said the latest operation conducted on Thursday was based on the confessions by suspects arrested earlier that there was a plan to launch attacks on "assets important to the nation and western interests, as well as in public places," Xinhua news agency reported.

The three men comprised a local and two foreigners. One of the foreign suspects visited Yemen frequently and entered Malaysia a few days ago, police said.

Malaysian authorities have arrested a number of suspects in 2015 for their alleged involvement in planning attacks in the capital Kuala Lumpur, it added.
