Bogota: Around 6,000 people in Colombia braved chills to pose naked in Bogota's Bolivar Plaza `in the name of peace` on Sunday.

Colombians stripped off for Spencer Tunick's latest nude photo art project. The American photographer has done many nude photo shoots in cities around the globe but this was one of his largest in six years.

The shoot came as the Colombian government is about to strike a peace deal with leftist rebels of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia.

"The body for me represents purity and unity and a positive notion of life," news agency Reuters quoted Tunick as explaining. "So bringing the body into a space of government and tradition just brightens the whole place up for me."

Meanwhile, Daily Mail quoted Tunick as saying: “It's an honour to be here at this moment when life is changing and hopefully a peace agreement will be signed.”

The models posed au naturel in the square in Bogota's historic area where the city's cathedral and other monuments are located.

The photographs will be displayed in Bogota's Museum of Modern Art later this year. All of the participants will also receive a limited edition print taken by Tunick.
