Imphal: Nongthombam Biren Singh is all set to be the next chief minister of Manipur as the state Governor Najma Heptulla on Tuesday invited BJP to form the government.
The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place at 1 pm tomorrow.

- Singh was a national- level footballer who later turned journalist after which he became a politician.
- He joined the regional Democratic Revolutionary People’s Party in 2002 and was elected to the Manipur Legislative Assembly from Heingang constituency.
- It merged with the Congress before the 2004 Assembly elections.
- Singh was appointed as minister of state for Vigilance in 2003.
- He has also held the position of minister of irrigation and flood control and youth affairs and sports.
- Singh, in 2007 and 2012 retained his Assembly seat.
- He later fell out with the then CM Okram Ibobi Singh. This is said to be because he was excluded from the Cabinet in 2012.
- In 2016 Singh joined the BJP after leaving the Congress.
- He became the spokesperson and co-convener of the election management committee of BJP Manipur Pradesh.
- Singh won in 2017 as a BJP candidate from Heingang Assembly constituency.
- He will be the first BJP CM of the state.
