Tripura Assembly elections 2018: BJP's vision document 'illegal', 'imaginary', says CPI(M)

Agartala: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Sunday termed BJP's vision document is “fotka” (imaginary) and “illegal”.

BJP's vision document was released a week before the Tripura Assembly elections 2018 on Sunday, promises to absorb 10,323 government teachers, facing the axe, within the framework of the law and hiking of minimum wage up to Rs 300. The also promises to offer smartphones to youth, employment opportunities and implementation of 7th Central Pay Commission for government employees.

Referring to the document, CPI (M) state secretary Bijan Dhar claimed that the document is nothing but an attempt to win the election.

Promises at this juncture are illegal and a clear case of violation model code of conduct, added Dhar.

The party will file a complaint against the BJP with the ECI, said Dhar.

State Assembly elections will be held on February 18, counting of votes will be done on March 3.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M), which has a strong foothold in Tripura, has been in power for the past 25 years.

The incumbent Chief Minister Manik Sarkar is at the helm for the past 19 years. He held the term for the fourth time after the party swept away the 2013 assembly elections.

In the last Assembly polls in 2013, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) failed to open its victory tally, while CPI (M) bagged an overwhelming majority with 51 seats.
