Don't think nepotism exists, else every star kid had become superstar, says Kareena Kapoor

Kareena Kapoor cited Ranveer Singh's example saying the actor made it big in Bollywood on his own, without any familial ties.

Mumbai: Actress Kareena Kapoor, the grandchild of legendary actor-filmmaker Raj Kapoor, on Saturday said that she does not believe that nepotism exists in the Indian film industry and that if the practice was prevalent, every star kid would have gone on to become a superstar. 

Kareena was at a media event along with her sister Karisma Kapoor on Saturday when she was asked if nepotism exists in the film industry.

"There are so many superstars from yesteryears and not all of their children are a superstar. If nepotism exists, they would have been a big star by now," she said. 

Citing the example of 'Padmaavat' star Ranveer Singh, Kareena added, "The fact that Ranveer Singh has become the new superstar of Bollywood who does not come from a film family proves the fact that they become superstar out of their sheer talent and hard work. Nepotism does not exist."

Actress Karisma too joined the discussion and asserted, "I think it is about the talent that takes you where you go. When you are on-screen, anybody can make or break you; anyone can make a judgment on you irrespective of you are a daughter or grandchildren of someone."

"And for a youngster who has a huge family and legacy behind, is much tough to make a mark," she added.

During the discussion, when they were countered that 'But Kangana Ranaut said otherwise', Karisma quipped, "People can have their opinion and we should respect each opinion."

Ever since Kangana Ranaut openly called Karan Johar as 'flag bearer of nepotism' at his own chat show, there has been a huge debate on the matter if the industry is at all nepotistic towards people who do not have a Bollywood background.
