New Delhi: Bollywood's very own fashion icon Sonam Kapoor has several projects lined-up for this year. The actress will be seen in Akshay Kumar starrer Padman—a film which is based on Arunachalam Muruganantham—the man whose initiative to invent low-cost sanitary pad making machines in rural India helped not only his wife but other women in his village to lead a hygienic life.
In an interview with Mid-Day.com, talking about the venture Sonam said, “When was the last time you heard a man talk about menstrual hygiene.” She added, “I have always wondered why the subject is taboo in India. Sanitary napkins are packed like bombs; they are wrapped inside newspapers in black packets. Mothers don't broach the subject, schools don't instruct their girls about it. Grandmothers have forbidden us from entering temples on certain days of the month. A film like this, headlined by a superstar, will make people watch it."
Besides her professional projects, Sonam was lately in news for her alleged wedding rumours with boyfriend Anand Ahuja. Several reports stated that the duo might take the plunge in April this year.
Sonam made a clear-cut point by saying, "Why are actresses asked more about their personal lives? Is anyone asking Ranbir Kapoor or Ranveer Singh when they are getting married?"
"Nobody has the right to access my personal life. This one part has to be in my control. I am ready to talk about me, but there is another person involved here and I need to respect him”, she added.
Well, Sonam is a firebrand in herself and never really shies away from making her opinion public.
Atta girl!
