New Delhi: Indian television's most famous and loved comedian, Kapil Sharma is a brand name today. He not only has a huge fanbase in the country but across the globe. Kapil celebrates his birthday on April 2, and as he turns a year older, let's get to know him a little better.

Born in Amritsar, Kapil's father was a head constable in Punjab Police and mother a housewife. He studied in Dav Public School, Lawerence road and then went on complete his higher education from Khalsa College, Amritsar.

It was in The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, 2007 where Kapil first appeared, doing stand-up comedy on the small screens. He won the show and got a prize money of Rs 10, lakh. Before this big win, he had done several shows and stand-ups.

Kapil became an overnight star after his successful stint on Comedy Circus where he won as many as six seasons. Then in 2013, he started his maiden show titled 'Comedy Nights With Kapil' which not only became a huge success but also made Kapil a household name.

In a surprising move, Kapil, who is known for keeping his personal life hush-hush introduced his girlfriend Ginni Chatrath on Twitter. He has been in a steady relationship with her for a long time.

After 'Comedy Nights With Kapil', his popularity grew by leaps and bounds. He won several awards for his impeccable comic timing and hosted big night show such as the Filmfare, Star Screen Awards etc.

Kapil was nominated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan which he humbly accepted. The star comedian was also invited to the Rashtrapati Bhavan by President Pranab Mukherjee in September 2015 to acknowledge his contribution for the same.

Kapil was even ranked at number 11 by the prestigious Forbes India in their Celebrity 100 list in the year 2016. In 2017, Kapil ranked at 18th position in their Celebrity 100 list by Forbes.

The actor-comedian is now back with 'Family Time With Kapil Sharma, a game show which airs on Sony.
