Priyanka Chopra, Nick Jonas get accused of animal cruelty

After being questioned for the display of fireworks at her wedding, Priyanka and Nick Jonas have been called out for the animal abuse.

New Delhi: After a section of social media users slammed the use of firework celebrations at the wedding of Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas, now animal rights organisation PETA has accused the newlywed couple of animal cruelty.

The official Twiter handle of PETA India on Monday raised a concern about the use of horses and elephant at their nuptials and wrote, "Dear Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas. Elephants for weddings live in chains and horses are controlled with whips, spiked bits. People are rejecting elephant rides and having horse-free weddings. Congrats, but we regret it was not a happy day for animals."

The post was backed by a video titled 'Band Baaja Brutality' and showcased what horses have to go through when they are used at weddings. 

PETA India CEO Manilal Valliyate told IANS, "Priyanka has been ill-served by not being advised of the firestorm that would be caused by participating in animal abuse. It doesn't make a person look big or glamorous to promote cruelty to animals who has no choice but to serve. It makes them look small. Overwhelmingly, these days PETA is delighted to see so many celebrities feel passionately about protecting animals."

Before this, Priyanka was trolled by the social media users who pointed out the use of fireworks at Jodhpur's Umaid Bhawan, the days she exchanged wedding vows with Nick Jonas in a Christian ceremony. At around Diwali this year, Priyanka, who is an asthmatic herself, had urged people to give up on crackers by asking them to follow 'Less pollution, more Laddoos' path for the festival of Lights.
