New Delhi: A prominent and veteran Bollywood actress has filed a rape case against a Mumbai-based businessman on Thursday. Acting on the complaint, the Mumbai Police arrested the accused and produced him in the court following which he was sent to police custody till March 28.

In a shocking update on the case, the defence lawyer later claimed that the complainant and the accused were married and are husband and wife as per the Nikahnama. As per the lawyers, the veteran actress had been living with the accused for two years and even went for Umrah in November 2017 as a couple. As per the lawyer, she had declared the accused as her husband on the visa as they went for Umrah.

The actress had registered the first complaint against the accused in January 2018.

The lawyer alleged that the woman and the accused did not meet after the Umrah. He further claimed that the victim was addicted to painkillers due to which dispute took place between the two.

The victim, who happens to be one of the iconic stars of her era, had in January registered a complaint and accused the 38-year-old businessman of stalking and threatening her. She had at the time also alleged that he was sending her lewd messages on WhatsApp and had entered her house after beating up her security guard.

The case was transferred to the crime branch of the Mumbai Police. Police have registered the case against the businessman under Sections 376, 420, 465, 467, 468, 469, 471 and 504 of the IPC.
