New Delhi: Legendary Bollywood filmmaker Yash Chopra and superstar Shah Rukh Khan were considered to be the hit-machine of Indian cinema till the time the former breathed his last. Their movies are, till now, considered to be masterpieces by the critics and loved by the audience.
Adding yet another feather to their cap, SRK will soon be felicitated with the fourth National Yash Chopra Memorial Award. The announcement was recently made by the jury members, comprising Chopra's wife Pamela, filmmaker Boney Kapoor, Simi Garewal, Padmini Kohlapuri, Subbarami Reddy, Any and Shashi Ranjan.
"The award is given to those who are icons, who we know are legends like we gave to Lata Mangeshkar and Amitabh Bachchan. Last year, it was Rekha, who will be a legend tomorrow and same is the case with Shah Rukh. Also, Yash was very close to Shah Rukh and they both were extremely fond of each other," PTI quoted Pamela as saying.
Interestingly, the last four directorial ventures of Chopra's career featured SRK. It is believed that 1993 release 'Darr', which was also directed by Chopra, took Shah Rukh to whole new heights and made him Indian cinema's most desirable actor of that era.
The 'Baadshah' of B-Town will receive the award on February 25 next year.
Previously, Lata Mangeshkar, Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha have won this honour.
