New Delhi: Ford has officially confirmed the launch of the Mustang GT and Mustang Mach-E in the Indian automobile market. The Ford Mustang Mach-E will be the first electric four-wheeler to be launched in India by the American automobile manufacturer.
Apparently, the confirmation of the launch of the two powerful four-wheelers in India has come at a time when Ford has announced its exit from the Indian market. Both the new cars will be launched under Ford’s revamped plans for India.
Ford India managing director Anurag Mehrotra said that the intent of the company is to bring products that are going to be differentiated. “We believe to start with the Mustang family of products, which the Mustang coupe and the Mach-E, would really help us separate out from the marketplace and deliver that sustainable, profitable business.”
Mustang Mach-E will be launched in India as a completely built-up (CBU). The electric four-wheeler will be launched alongside Mustang GT.
Launched globally in 2019, Mustang Mach-E is packed with two battery packs: a 68kWh pack that offers up to 370km and an 88kWh battery pack that is claimed to offer a range of about 491km of range.
Depending on the variants, the four-wheelers can offer a minimum power of 270hp to a peak power of 487hp. As of now, Ford hasn’t announced which variant will be launched in India.
Ford will continue to operate a select number of outlets across the country. Through these outlets, the carmaker will sell Mustang branded four-wheelers. The company will also continue to offer services to other outgoing models through the outlets.
Ford is currently planning to launch more electric four-wheeler models in the Indian automobile market under the Mustang brand. Mehrotra pointed out that the intent is really to draw on more and more of the futuristic, electrified, connected, always-on products.
