Here's how the upcoming next-gen Ambassador electric car can look like: IN PICS

From politicians to taxi operators, the Hindustan Motors Ambassador was India's darling back in 1970s. So much was the demand for HM Ambassador, that it held almost 75 percent market share in India. For reference, India's biggest carmaker Maruti Suzuki holds 40% share, with more than 10 different models. However, with the arrival of modern, cheaper, and lightweight cars, the Ambassador lost its mojo and was discontinued eventually. It seems like HM Ambassador is going to have another go at the domestic market, if reports are to be believed. As per multiple reports on Times of India and HT Bangla, the company plans on expanding its operations to make electric cars, and has partnered with a French firm to officiate the partnership. While we don't know what the modern electric HM Ambassador could look like, here's a modern interpretation by Anmol Satpute, a graduate from MITID.

The last Ambassador from Hindustan Motors' Uttarpara plant was delivered in September 2014. The manufacturer was deeply in debt, demand was low, and sales were poor, so the brand was sold to Groupe PSA.

Back in 1970s, Hindustan Motors had a 75% market share in the Indian automobile market, with sales of the iconic Ambassador car touching sky high. Later, more affordable cars like the Maruti 800 and other models began to appear in the country, and Hindustan Motors Ambassador began to face a steel challenge.

The design of the renderings looks nowhere close to the original Ambassador, however it has several design elements that inspired by the original model.
