Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the completed section of the Kanpur Metro Rail Project. The completed 9 Km long section is from IIT Kanpur to Moti Jheel and is part of the 32 km long Kanpur Metro Project being built at a cost of over Rs 11,000 crore. Prime Minister Modi said the stretch will improve urban mobility which has been one of the key focus areas of the government. The Kanpur Metro will have 2 lines and 30 stations in the city of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh with 32.385 km of routes.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took a ride on the newly inaugurated Kanpur Metro.
Kanpur Metro is an urban Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) and The project’s foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 8, 2019.
Kanpur Metro will be built in phases, with Phase 1 having 2 lines and 30 stations developed across 32.385 km of routes.
The top speed of the Metro is 80 kmph and the 8.7 km Priority Corridor from IIT Kanpur to Moti Jheel was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Line 1 Station Names: IIT Kanpur, Kalyanpur Railway Station, SPM Hospital, CSJM University, Gurudev Chauraha, Geeta Nagar, Rawatpur Railway Station, Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital, Moti Jheel, Chunniganj, Naveen Market, Bada Chauraha, Nayaganj, Birhana Road, Kanpur Central Railway Station, ISBT Jhakarkatti, Old Transport Nagar, Kidwai Nagar North, Kidwai Nagar South, Yashoda Nagar, Baudh Nagar and Naubasta.
Line 2 Station Names: CSA University, GSVM Medical College, Rawatpur Railway Station, Kakadeo, Vijay Nagar, Dada Nagar, Barra-7, Barra-8 and Jarauli.
Kanpur Metro’s highest point is at 15.164 km (Elevated) and the lowest point is at 8.621 km (Underground).
With the first stretch of priority corridor operational, the Phase 1 is expected to be completed by December 2024.
