New Delhi: Food delivery app Swiggy has come up with its Swiggy 2021 Report to reflect what Indians have been ordering over the past year. Not so surprisingly, Biryani was again the most favourite dish on Swiggy.
According to Swiggy’s annual report ‘Swiggy StatEATstics 2021’, more than 6 crore Biryani orders were placed on the online platform. This translates to about 115 biryanis per minute or roughly two biryanis per second.
In comparison, about 90 biryani orders per minute were placed on Swiggy in 2020. This clearly suggests that India’s appetite for biryani has only increased in 2021. Indians ordered chicken biryani 4.3 times more than vegetarian biryani.
But that’s not all, as chicken biryani also appeared to be the best first-time order on Swiggy. More than 4.25 lakh new customers ordered chicken biryani as their first order, the report said.
Chicken biryani was unarguably the most ordered meal in several cities such as Chennai, Kolkata, Lucknow and Hyderabad. However, in Mumbai, Swiggy received 2x Khichdi orders than chicken biryani. Mumbaikars also ordered Dal Makhni a lot.
After biryani, Indians ordered samosas the most. The report suggests that Indians ordered samosas equal to the population of New Zealand, making it the most binged snack of the year.
Overall, Swiggy received about 5 million orders of samosas. The report also pointed out that samosa was ordered 6x more as compared to chicken wings.
Following samosas is Pav Bhaji, which emerged as the 2nd favourite snack of Indians on Swiggy, with over 2.1 million orders.
The ‘Swiggy StatEATstics 2021’ report pointed out that Bangalore was the most health-conscious city in India. Following Bangalore were Hyderabad and Mumbai.
In Chennai, a Swiggy delivery partner received a Rs 6000 tip - the largest tip for a single order.
