New Delhi: In India, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Railways, has lined up a series of Shri Ramayana Yatra packages in a bid to promote religious tourism in the country. The packages are also aimed at giving a booster to the tourism sector that remained in shambles during the pandemic.
IRCTC’s Shri Ramayana Yatra package, which is launched under the "Dekho Apna Desh" initiative, is currently selling for Rs 82,950 per person for 2AC and Rs 1,02,095 for 1AC class.
The first train as part of the Shri Ramayana Yatra packages departed at 6.30 pm today from Safdarjung Railway Station. According to IRCTC, the train has been fully booked by passengers.
IRCTC said that the unique initiative of operating the Deluxe AC Tourist Train on the Ramayana circuit with the name Shri Ramayana Yatra has got an overwhelming response from the public.
The 17 days tour covers all prominent places associated with the life of Lord Shri Rama. The train will take its first halt at Ayodhya. Visitors will visit Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple and Hanuman temple.
Travellers will be then taken to Bharat Mandir (Nandigram), and other religious places associated with the life of Lord Rama. These destinations include Janakpur, Sitamarhi, Kashi, Prayag, Shringverpur, Chitrakoot, Nashik, Hampi and Rameshwaram.
Rameshwaram will be the last destination of the trip, post which the train will return to Delhi on the 17th day of its journey. IRCTC will be following all COVID-19 protocols and safety measures in the deluxe tourist train.
Witnessing a massive demand, IRCTC has now decided to run the tour again on December 12, 2021, with a similar price and duration. However, tourists who are completely vaccinated and are above the age group 18 or above will be eligible for booking the package.
IRCTC also offers several other packages such as the 13 days Shri Ramayana Yatra Express-Madurai. The train under the tour will depart on November 16. There is also a 17 day Shri Ramayana Yatra Express-Sri Ganganagar package, for which the train will depart on November 25.
