Toyota Motor Company is a global powerhouse and world's largest carmaker. In India, though, the story is a bit different. Only Toyota Innova Crysta and Toyota Fortuner are best selling cars in the country and all their smaller cars failed to attract many buyers. Interestingly, Toyota partnered with Suzuki on a global level for product sharing where Toyota gets smaller cars from Suzuki and rebrands them, while Suzuki gets bigger cars from Toyota and rebrands them. While Suzuki has not launched any product under this partnership, Toyota has launched the Maruti Suzuki Baleno based Toyota Glanza, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza based Toyota Urban Cruiser and will soon launch Maruti Suzuki Ciaz based Toyota Belta. As for the large and premium vehicles, Toyota is now all set to launch the Hilux pickup truck, one of the best selling products from the Japanese brand. Here's an image gallery of the Toyota Hilux.
Toyota is all set to launch the famous Hilux truck in India at an expected price tag starting at Rs 25 lakh and will hit the showrooms early next year.
Toyota Hilux will rival Isuzu D-Max V-Cross, the only pickup truck targeted at the lifestyle buyers.
Toyota will most likely offer a 2.4-litre diesel engine from the Innova with 150 bhp output, along with 2.8-litre diesel engine from Fortuner producing 204 bhp. There will be option for both two- or four-wheel drive.
The Hilux pickup truck will have an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and other features as sourced from Fortuner.
The Thai-spec Toyota Hilux secured a 5-star rating in ASEAN NCAP crash test and the Indian model is expected to get the similar equipment.
The Toyota Hilux is measured at 5.3m in length and has a wheelbase of over 3m. The truck will carry its iconic rugged look with a double-cab version.
