New Delhi: 2021 has been a topsy-turvy ride for most sectors in India. From a complete lockdown of several weeks to making a quick turnaround, several sectors definitely performed way better than others in the ongoing year. 

While we’re now stating at a new year, it could be the right time to recall the top-performing sectors in 2021 to better decide investments for 2022.

Metal

The increasing demand for metals isn’t a secret anymore, and firms in the sector have made decent gains in 2021. For instance, BSE Metal has jumped about 65% in 2021, while BSE Sensex gained just about 19% year-to-date. 

 

Firms such as Tata Steel, APL Apollo Tubes, Vedanta, and JSW Steel, among others, were among the top gainers in the metal sector in 2021.

Information Technology

Since the onset of the pandemic, the Information Technology (IT) sector has been on the rise. While top IT firms such as TCS, Wipro, Infosys and HCL Tech had a decent 2021, companies such as Majesco, Happiest Minds Technologies and Brightcom Group by manifold were the major gainers in the IT industry.

BSE realty index has jumped by 51.38% year-to-date, in comparison to about 19% jump of the benchmark S&P BSE Sensex Index.
