The Bengali beauty made her acting debut on small screen opposite Kushal Chakraborty in the Bengali fantasy TV series Shwet Kapot (1989). The show was broadcast on DD Bangla.
Rituparna shot to fame after making her big screen debut with director Prabhat Roy's National Award-winning Bengali film Shwet Patharer Thala (1992).
Rituparna, after ruling the Bengali film industry, also featured in Hindi films. The actress made her Bollywood film debut with Teesra Kaun in 1994.
Rituparna was always interested in arts and has an MA in Modern History from the University of Calcutta.
The actress is the recipient of the prestigious National Film Award for her 1997 film Dahan.
Rituparna has worked with director Anurag Kashyap in an upcoming Hindi film Bansuri. Anurag will work as an actor opposite Rituparna in this project and the film is directed by Hari Viswanath.
