On the personal front, Kamal Haasan is a father to two daughters Shruti Haasan and Akshara Haasan.
Kamal Haasan who has donned many hats over his long career in the entertainment industry began his journey in films as a child artist in 1960 in the film 'Kalathur Kannamma'. In an impressive feat, he won the President's Gold Medal for his performance in the movie.

After his stint as a child artist in films, he redirected his focus on his education. Then, the actor stepped foot in the industry as a dance assistant to renowned choreographer Thankappan. He had assisted the dancer in the 1971 film 'Annai Velankani' and 1973 film 'Kasi Yathirai'.

The actor has won a whopping 19 Filmfare Awards and 4 National Film Awards. Apart from these, he has always been bestowed with the Kalaimamani award in 1984 the Padma Shri in 1990, the Padma Bhushan in 2014. But that's not all, Kamal Haasan also won the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2016, which honours eminent artists and writers.

The 'Apoorva Raagangal' actor has also supported humanitarian causes and received the Abraham Kovoor National Award in 2004. Haasan is one of the rare celebs who converted his fan clubs into welfare groups. As per reports, his fan clubs, under the name Kamal Narpani Iyakkam (Kamal Welfare Association), often organise eye-donation drive, educational materials drive and blood donation drives.

Kamal has also ventured into politics. He had formally formed his party Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) in Tamil Nadu in 2018. The regional party is known to hold a centrist stand.
