Born in Amritsar, Kapil's father was a head constable in Punjab Police and mother a housewife. He studied in Dav Public School, Lawerence road and then went on complete his higher education from Khalsa College, Amritsar.
It was in The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, 2007 where Kapil first appeared, doing stand-up comedy on the small screens. He won the show and got prize money of Rs 10, lakh. Before this big win, he had done several shows and stand-ups.
In a surprising move, Kapil, who is known for keeping his personal life hush-hush introduced his girlfriend Ginni Chatrath on Twitter. He was in a steady relationship with her for a long time and tied the knot with Ginni on December 12, 2018. The couple is blessed with a daughter and a son.
