Panama Papers leak: Aishwarya Rai, Amitabh Bachchan and Ajay Devgn's name crops up in tax evasion case

The Panama Papers are 11.5 million leaked documents from the secret files of Mossack Fonseca, a law firm headquartered in tax haven Panama. The obtained papers reveal clients of the law firm and their transactions. Mossack Fonseca's work was to invest in shell companies to help individuals evade taxes. Information for more than 2,14,488 individuals was first leaked on April 3, 2016 by the German newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung. It included more than 500 Indians.

Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was grilled by the Enforcement Directorate for more than five hours on Monday (December 20). She was summoned twice before by the agency but had excuses for her absence.

According to the Panama Papers leak, Aishwarya Rai was made the director of one of the offshore companies initially, but later she was declared the shareholder. Her parents and brother were also declared partners in the company. This company was made in 2005 and dissolved in 2008.

Panama Papers leak revealed that Amitabh Bachchan has been made the director of 4 companies, 3 in the Bahamas and 1 in the Virgin Islands. These companies were made in 1993. The capital of these companies are between USD 5,000 to 50,000.

Actor Ajay Devgn has also been named in the Panama Papers leak. 

The actor was the largest shareholder of Marylebone Entertainment Ltd, a company located in the British Virginia Islands.
