Puneeth Rajkumar's 2010 film Jackie is a fun action-drama that even won critical acclaim by audiences and was awarded the Best Film of 2010 at the South Filmfare Awards. The plot of the Soori directorial hinges on the drama that unfolds after Jackie played by Puneeth gets into trouble for the disappearance of a girl played by Bhavna who he had helped escape with her lover.

Puneeth Rajkumar had a penchant for acting ever since he was a child and had starred in several films in the 80s as a child actor. The 1985 film 'Bettada Hoovu' was a huge breakthrough for his career at the time. The drama feature was directed by N. Lakshminarayan and based on a novel titled 'What Then, Raman?'. Interestingly, he won the Best Child Artist Award at 33rd National Film Awards for his performance.

The 2007 romantic-drama film 'Milana' starred Puneeth Rajkumar, Parvathy Thiruvothu and Pooja Gandhi and was directed by Prakash. It revolved around the story of a couple who get tie the knot through arranged marriage but the husband (Puneeth) later realises that the wife (Parvathi Menon) is in love with an old flame and was forced into wedlock. However, soon she starts catching feelings for her husband.

The film Appu was Puneeth's first breakthrough role as the lead in a Kannada film. It was produced by the late actor's mother Parvathamma Rajkumar under their family production banner - Poornima Enterprises. Along with Puneeth, it was also a big debut for his lead co-star Rakshita.

The 2017 Kannada film 'Anjani Putra' starring Puneeth Rajkumar and Rashmika Mandanna in lead roles was directed by A. Harsha and produced by M. N. Kumar. The plot of the film is about Viraj (Puneeth Rajkumar) and Bhairava (Mukesh Tiwari) fighting over the former's family's land. Interestingly, the film is a remake of the Tamil film 'Poojai' which was directed by Hari.
