New Delhi: A dust storm engulfed Delhi-NCR on Wednesday (June 10) after a sizzling heatwave. Thunderstorms with light rain accompanied by gusty winds at a speed of 40-50 kmph occurred over the Delhi-NCR.
Although, the dust storm followed by rains led to a decline in the mercury level across Delhi-NCR, but also resulted in traffic jams at several places.
The broken tree branches, uprooted trees, and fallen hoardings led to the traffic jams in Delhi-NCR.
A hoarding along with broken tree branches fell on the road at the Delhi Noida Direct (DND) flyover due to strong winds. This interrupted the moving traffic for a while until a JCB arrived at the spot.
Due to the fallen hoarding, there was a 3-4 km long traffic jam at the DND.
Earlier, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted that humidity and heat will persist throughout the week.
From Saturday, the weather is expected to change. There will be some relief on Sunday as well, but heat and humidity will continue.
The rains in Delhi-NCR also contributed to a change in the weather patterns, bringing relief from the humid summer.
Notably, the south-west monsoon is likely to reach the national capital by the last week of this month. The IMD has forecasted its arrival in the Delhi-NCR by June 27.
