Embraer, the Brazilian plane maker is known for making some of the most luxurious private jets across the globe and also makes military planes. Among these military planes is the Embraer C-390 Millennium heavy lift cargo aircraft, which is the new generation military multi-mission airlift aircraft. As per the company, the plane brings unrivalled mobility, high productivity and operational flexibility at low operational costs. Now a report suggests that Embraer is pitching its C-390 to the Indian Air Force to increase its cargo transportation and troop movement capabilities. Currently, India is using cargo planes like C-130J Super Hercules from the United States and Ilyushin Il-76 from the erstwhile Soviet Union. Apart from private jets, Embraer is also making military planes like the KC390 and C-390 Millennium cargo planes. A report suggests Embraer is pitching the C-390 to the Indian Air Force.
The medium-size, twin-engine, jet-powered military transport aircraft will increase IAF's heavy lift capabilities, said Embraer's top executive in an interview.
Currently, Indian Air Force is using cargo planes like C-130J Super Hercules from the United States and Ilyushin Il-76 from the erstwhile Soviet Union for heavy lift and transport duties.
The C390 gets advanced Cargo Handling System (CHS) with modern solutions for software controlled cargo locking and is designed to be easily and quickly reconfigured for different missions without the need for special tools.
Embraer has already partnered with India to provide 'Netra' plane based on the Embraer ERJ145 platform ans is made by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in India.
Also, Embraer’s Legacy 600 jets are being operated by the Indian Air Force for the transportation of government officials and VIPs.
The C-390 can be equipped with a complete self-protection suite (SPS) with Radar Warning Receiver (RWR), Laser Warning System (LWS), Missile Approach Warning System (MAWS), Chaff & Flare, Directional Infrared Counter Measures (DIRCM), Electro Optics/Infrared Pod.
