Anand Giri, the disciple of the president of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad Mahant Narendra Giri, has been detained by the Uttar Pradesh Police from Haridwar after the seer was found dead in Prayagraj on Monday (September 20, 2021).
Anand Giri was detained on Monday night and an FIR has been registered against him under IPC Section 306 (Abetment of suicide).
Mahant Narendra Giri, the president of the largest organisation of seers in India, was found dead at Baghambari Muth in Prayagraj.
A purported suicide note of as many as 12 pages was also recovered, in which Narendra Giri had written that he was mentally disturbed and was ending his life.
Narendra Giri has blamed Anand Giri, Aadhya Tiwari and Sandeep Tiwari for his death in his suicide note.
Anand Giri termed the allegation as a conspiracy by people who used to extort money from Mahant Narendra Giri
"It is a big conspiracy by people who used to extort money from Guruji and wrote my name in the letter. It needs to be investigated as Guruji has not written a letter in his life and could not do suicide. His handwriting needs to be probed," Anand Giri said.
Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday demanded a judicial probe by a sitting high court judge.
A lawyer has mailed a petition to the chief justice of the Allahabad High Court seeking a CBI probe into the case.
"The Mahant was provided security by the state government. How can such an incident take place in the presence of a huge number of disciples and security officials?" the letter-petition stated.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid tributes to Mahant Narendra Giri.
Adityanath said that all aspects related to the death of top seer are being probed and the guilty will be punished. Asserting that evidence has been collected in connection with Mahant's death, the UP CM said the case will be solved soon.
