Ganpati Visarjan across India: Devotees bid farewell to Lord Ganesha - In Pics

On the last day of Ganesh chaturthi on Sunday, the idols of the diety was immersed with pomp and show. Though, there were COVID-19 restrictions imposed, the idols were immersed today on Anant Chaturdashi, with this the 10-day long festival has come to an end today. See pics here

While many cities imposed strict restrictions on immersion of idols for the second straight year amid unrelenting novel coronavirus pandemic. Volunteers and devotees were found taking to the streets as part of the final processions.

In Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had issued strict orders to ensure social distancing and COVID-19 appropriate behaviour, and also put a cap on the number of people allowed to enter the designated immersion venues.

Traditionally, it is believed that on the day of visarjan, Lord Ganesha returns to his parents' abode on Mount Kailash.

Devotees believe that Lord Ganesha will take away their obstacles and difficulties from their homes thus giving him the name 'vighnaharta'.
