In Pics: 10 Prominent Candidates In Fray In Second Phase Of Jharkhand Elections

JMM leader Rabindranath Mahato is contesting from the Nala constituency, a seat he has dominated since Jharkhand’s formation, except in 2009.  

BJP’s Amar Kumar Bauri, the leader of the opposition, has filed his nomination from Chandankiyari, a constituency reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates.  

Congress has fielded its sitting MLA Dipika Singh Pandey from Mahagama. Known for her leadership roles within the Congress, Pandey has been an active force in the Godda district.  

Jharkhand Minister Irfan Ansari is contesting from Jamtara for the Congress. Ansari, a veteran politician, is the sitting MLA and carries a strong legacy, as his father Furqan Ansari represented this seat several times.  

JMM’s Hafizul Hassan is seeking reelection from Madhupur, a seat he has held since 2020. Hassan succeeded his late father, Haji Hussain Ansari, a former MLA from the constituency. 

Sudesh Mahto, the All Jharkhand Student Union (AJSU) party chief, is contesting from Silli. Mahto is seeking his fifth term and second consecutive victory in this crucial constituency.  

Kalpana Soren, wife of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, is contesting from the Gandey constituency for JMM. She had won the seat in a bypoll earlier this year, defeating BJP’s Dilip Kumar Verma by a margin of 27,149 votes. In this phase, she faces BJP candidate Muniya Devi.  

Chief Minister Hemant Soren of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) is contesting from the Barhait constituency in Santhal Pargana, a seat reserved for tribals. Soren, who has won Barhait twice in a row, faces BJP candidate Gamliyel Hembrom. The BJP has historically failed to secure this constituency, which has been a JMM stronghold since 1990.  

JMM’s Basant Soren is contesting from Dumka, a seat he won in a 2020 bypoll after it was vacated by his elder brother, Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who retained his Barhait seat after the 2019 elections.  

Jharkhand’s first Chief Minister and current BJP state president Babulal Marandi is contesting from Dhanwar. This politically significant seat is set for a triangular contest as INDIA bloc partners Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) and JMM have fielded separate candidates against him.
