Rahul Gandhi announced his entry into Indian politics in March 2004. In 2013, he was elected as the Congress Vice President.

He was also the General Secretary of the Indian National Congress from September 25, 2007 to January 19, 2013. He was the President of the Indian National Congress from December 16, 2017 to July 3, 2019. After stepping down as Congress chief, he was succeeded by Sonia Gandhi (interim) in 2019. 

Gandhi attained primary education in Delhi and Dehradun and due to the security concerns, he was then schooled at home. However, later he completed undergraduate at St. Stephen's College in Delhi and moved to Harvard University for higher studies. He holds a degree from Trinity College, Cambridge.

Gandhi has appealed to party leaders and workers not to celebrate his birthday on Sunday. In a message to them, he said the youngsters of the country are anguished and are protesting on the streets and the Congress workers should stand with them. In a message that was posted on Twitter by All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary (communications) Jairam Ramesh, Mr Gandhi said the atmosphere in the country is worrisome.

Gandhi took part in a fishing exercise in poll-bound Kerala's Kollam district on February 24, 2021. During the exercise, he jumped into the sea along with fishermen as they cast their nets.

Gandhi was seen performing push-ups with the students of St. Joseph’s Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Mulagumoodu, Tamil Nadu on March 1, 2021.

Congress leader on March 22, 2021 visited St Teresa's College in Kochi. Gandhi taught the students of St. Theresa College some principles of Aikido, a form of martial art. He is known to be a fitness enthusiast and is trained in Aikido.

Congress leader tried out the local tea at Murugesan’s tea stall in Adaikilapattanam in Tamil Nadu.

"No dream is too big. We've taken the first step to make Advait's dream come true. Now it is our duty to create a society and a structure that will give him every opportunity to fly,” he captioned the video.

Congress leader celebrated Easter Sunday with the children of Jeevan Jyothi Children’s Home in Kalpetta, Wayanad. He also called his sister Priyanka Gandhi on his cell and the children also interacted with her through a video call.
